On Friday, 21 October the Estonian Aviation Seminar took place and also the title The Deed of the Year in Estonian Aviation was awarded to Tallinn Airport. Tallinn Airport won the competition with their nominee “The Green Airport That Is Driving the Green Transition of the Transportation Sector”.
Tallinn Airport is well-known in the entire World with its coziness, but recent years have shown also the green side of the airport. Tallinn Airport has set the goal to become a carbon-neutral airport in 2030. The solar parks have been working from 2020 in all Estonian airports (other Estonian airports belong to Tallinn Airport as well). In addition to that Tallinn Airport participates in the Rohetiiger network, they organized a very first Green Forum and took part in establishing the Estonian Hydrogen Valley.
“I am very glad that green topics have found their way to aviation and dealing with the green issues is a normal part of our regular lives. I have emphasized several times that enterprises that have not decreased their environmental impact by 2030, will be out of competition. This Title does not recognize only Tallinn Airport’s efforts, furthermore it recognizes the entire aviation sector’s efforts, because the only way to gain success is making cooperation”, told Riivo Tuvike, the CEO of Tallinn Airport.
The competition The Deed of the Year in Estonian Aviation has been held under the leadership of Estonian Aviation Academy from 2005. The aim of the competition is to recognize Estonian aviation enterprises or organizations achievements and contribution to developing Estonian aviation sector. Previously, the nominee was chosen by a committee, formed by the Academy. This year, a general voting took place for a very first time, in which participants of the Seminar and employees of the aviation companies participated. It was a tough competition and even 1,217 people voted.
Other nominees were AS Threod Systems, Lennuliiklusteeninduse AS, AS Nordic Aviation Group, Magnetic Group ja Airest AS.
