Estonian Aviation Academy offers various opportunities for the development of unmanned aircraft systems and testing of different platforms, by providing the necessary sectoral expertise and technical tools.

Academy’s test environment provides an opportunity to carry out research and practical validations in the field of unmanned aviation while being the test platform for unmanned aircraft systems integration into the airspace. Estonian Aviation Academy supports the development of the unmanned aviation business through the testing and deployment of innovative technologies by validating and developing concepts for innovative unmanned aircrafts and unmanned aircraft systems.

Preparation of a test plan for the development of operating procedures and technical solutions

For developers and operators it is important to test their UAV platforms, related systems and operational procedures. In order to do that in the test environment of Estonian Aviation Academy, a clear testing and validation plan is needed. Estonian Aviation Academy offers the service of preparing a corresponding test plan and general operational concept for experimental flights, taking into account the customer's operating procedures and the nature of flight operations, as well as technical solutions.

In the course of the service, the academy's experts support the preparation of testing methodology with the client's goals and expected output in mind. While considering various restrictions arising from legislation, the characteristics of unmanned aircraft systems and the goals of their implementation, the academy’s trained experts will find the best solutions for all customers.

Consultation and support for testing and experimentation

The academy's drone and communications technology laboratory and flight control simulator* are equipped with modern technical equipment and software solutions that can be applied to test technical solutions in different flight scenarios or systems according to the prepared test plan.

*An unmanned aircraft system simulator can be interfaced to the flight control simulator. Thereby it is possible to simulate the operation of unmanned and manned air traffic in the same airspace. The unmanned aerial vehicle system simulator can also be used independently for remote pilot training and flight mission planning.

Conducting test flights

Based on a client's ideas, the Estonian Aviation Academy can create suitable conditions for the execution of test scenarios of unmanned aircraft flights. In the academy's test environment, it is possible to validate technical concepts for various innovative unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicle systems. With the help of our team, it is possible to plan and conduct test flights in accordance with the legislation.
